On Saturday, September 21st, Larry Shapiro captured a series of compelling images from the Buffalo Grove Fire Department's open house event. The day was filled with excitement as families gathered to explore fire trucks, meet firefighters, and witness live demonstrations.
One of the highlights was the chance for kids to ride on the Mundelin fire engine, while others waited in line for their turn. A young child was seen simulating a rescue from a simulated below-grade entrapment, showcasing the department’s training efforts. Brothers shared a seat in a fire engine, while a firefighter greeted a curious young visitor, creating a memorable moment.
The Flight For Life helicopter drew a large crowd, with many eager to see it up close. The helicopter became a major attraction, drawing attention from all ages. Another photo captured a group of children sliding down the fire pole, an activity that always brings smiles.
A vehicle extrication demo captivated onlookers, with children fascinated by the process of removing a car from a wrecked scene. A live fire demonstration featured firefighters entering a burning room, highlighting their bravery and skill. Meanwhile, a father and son watched the show together, sharing in the experience.
During the junior firefighter challenge, a young boy received guidance from a firefighter while handling a hand line. Children also had the opportunity to learn how to use a fire extinguisher, gaining hands-on experience in a safe environment.
