On Saturday, September 21st, Larry Shapiro captured a series of engaging images from the Buffalo Grove Fire Department's open house event. The day was filled with excitement, education, and family fun as residents of all ages came out to explore the fire station and meet the brave men and women who serve their community.
Among the highlights was the opportunity for kids to ride on the Mundelin fire engine, where they could imagine themselves as firefighters for the day. A long line of eager participants waited patiently for their turn, showing just how popular these experiences were. One image shows a child performing a simulated rescue from a below-grade entrapment, highlighting the department’s commitment to public safety education.

The Flight For Life helicopter drew a crowd, as people of all ages were fascinated by its presence. Children especially loved checking out the helicopter up close, while others watched live fire demonstrations, including a dramatic vehicle extrication and a side-by-side live fire training session. The junior firefighter challenge also attracted attention, with one boy receiving guidance from an instructor during a hands-on activity.
In addition, children learned how to use a fire extinguisher, gaining valuable knowledge about fire safety.
