Cicero fire companies responded to a serious fire at 5927 W. 35th Street on Saturday afternoon. The two-story building, measuring 200 by 50 feet, housed retail stores on the ground floor and residential units above. The fire was initially reported in one of the second-floor apartments and quickly spread into the wooden flooring system, which was built over a concrete subfloor. This made the fire difficult to access and control.

The fire spread laterally beneath the wooden floors, reaching adjacent units and making it challenging for firefighters to locate and extinguish the source. A Box Alarm was quickly called for mutual aid, and the situation escalated to a 2nd Alarm as the complexity of the fire increased. Firefighters from Stickney, Berwyn, North Riverside, Oak Park, Forest Park, Lyons, and Bedford Park arrived to assist. Many crews used multiple saws to cut through the flooring, allowing them to reach the fire from below. Fortunately, all residents escaped safely, though two Cicero firefighters sustained minor injuries during the operation.

Fire investigators believe the fire started upstairs in one of the apartments. Officials do not believe the origins of the fire were suspicious, but Hanania said they will continue their investigation on Sunday.

The Chicago Sun-Times also reported on the fire here.

The fire began around 1:30 p.m. at 5927 W. 35th St. in a building that includes eight apartments and six storefronts. It was then raised to a 2-11 alarm, according to town spokesman Ray Hanania. The fire started in an upstairs apartment.

High Speed Gearboxes

High-speed Gearboxes are a type of gearbox specifically designed to handle rapid rotational speeds. They are commonly used in applications where high-speed machinery or certain aviation applications require efficient power transmission.

Here are some types of high-speed gearboxes:
Helical Gearboxes
Planetary Gearboxes
High-Speed Industrial Gearboxes
High-Speed Aviation Gearboxes
Aviation gearboxes used in high-speed aircraft engines are designed to withstand high speeds and provide the necessary reduction in RPM (revolutions per minute) from the engines to the propellers.
