Martin Nowak recently came across the detailed specification page for Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District’s new fire apparatus. The unit, labeled as Custom Top Mount Pumper #2030, is set to serve the Elburn area in Illinois and features a range of advanced firefighting equipment. The truck is built on a Spartan Gladiator MFD 10” raised roof chassis, powered by a Cummins ISL9 engine delivering 450 horsepower. It comes equipped with an Allison 3000 EVS automatic transmission, ensuring smooth performance under pressure. The body is made of heavy-duty aluminum, featuring ROM roll-up doors for easy access. Inside, the unit includes a 1000-gallon poly tank and a 30-gallon foam tank, along with a Hale QMAX125 pump rated at 1250 GPM. The pump operator panel is positioned across the top of the apparatus, making it easily accessible. There are six 2½-inch discharges, two on the left, one on the right, and three at the rear, plus a 4-inch discharge on the right side and a 3-inch discharge for the deck gun. The apparatus also includes an Akron Apollo deck gun, dual 2½-inch gated suctions, and a combination of preconnects from Mattydale. A Foam Pro 2002 single-tank system ensures efficient foam delivery. The front bumper extends 21 inches and includes a 5-inch front suction and a 1½-inch preconnect. Inside the cab, there are two EMS cabinets, while the wheel wells house three triple-bottle air compartments. Additional features include a Zico hydraulic ladder rack, a Stokes basket storage rack, and a Pike Pole compartment with rear access. A Kussmaul 1200 battery conditioner/air compressor with auto eject is also included. For sound, the truck is equipped with a Federal Q2B mechanical siren and a Whelen electronic siren with a 100-watt speaker. Two FRC Evolution 12-volt brow lights and two Whelen Pioneer 12-volt scene lights enhance visibility during operations. A Smart Power 5500-watt hydraulically driven generator supports electrical needs, and an electric cord reel with 100 feet of 10/3 cord is mounted on the right side. The unit also has two FRC Focus telescopic lights and four recessed scene lights for better illumination. A full LED warning light package, Chevron pattern striping, and a variety of other safety and operational features make this a well-equipped fire apparatus.
