Here’s an account from Steve Redick, along with additional photos from Dan Shevlin: About 0500 on Tuesday, January 7, in Norridge. It was well below freezing, and the fire occurred in a large home—almost like a mansion. I assume it used modern construction techniques, such as lightweight materials and truss systems. The location was a small intersection accessible from only two directions, which made access difficult. The fire was intense, and I heard that crews had trouble getting water due to frozen hydrants. Several people were reported missing or trapped when the fire department arrived, but I believe all occupants were eventually accounted for early in the response. Despite efforts, the fire spread rapidly and consumed the entire structure, which was later demolished. They used a couple of handlines and the Leyden aerial pipe, and eventually called for a tanker from Prospect Heights to supply the Schiller Park tower. I had already left by that point. Below are some images I captured during the event.
