More than 600 toy companies have been canceled export license
In 2008, China remained deeply engaged in its "Made in China" strategy, striving to improve product quality and ensure food safety. To address growing concerns, the State Council Information Office held its first and second press conferences, bringing together various ministries responsible for quality control and food safety. On the 14th, Pu Changcheng, Deputy Director of the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, outlined the efforts made by the quality inspection system during a special campaign targeting product quality and food safety.
During this period, over 600 Chinese toy companies had their export permits revoked due to non-compliance with quality standards. The previous year had seen a major crisis in the toy industry, with numerous recalls affecting Chinese exporters. Pu Changcheng emphasized that while some recalls were not the responsibility of Chinese manufacturers, the quality inspection department still conducted a thorough review of all toy producers, particularly those involved in exporting—over 3,000 companies in total.
The audit included a detailed inventory check, and Pu revealed that more than 600 companies with weak quality assurance systems and unstable product performance had their export licenses canceled. He also highlighted that after the rectification, the quality inspection authorities required toy manufacturers to implement comprehensive quality control systems and conduct rigorous testing on all products. Even if toys were produced based on foreign designs and met the standards set by importing countries, Chinese regulators insisted on re-evaluating their safety features to ensure compliance with domestic and international requirements.
This move marked a significant shift in China's approach to quality control, signaling a stronger commitment to maintaining high standards in the global market.
