New Technology Promotes Synthesis of Ammonia Industry

The National Ammonia Wastewater Treatment New Technology On-Site Meeting was successfully held in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. Representatives from Shandong Feida Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. and Henan Xinyang Asia New Energy Co., Ltd., who have implemented advanced pollution control technologies, delivered speeches at the event. Their remarkable results and significant benefits demonstrated that these new technologies are key to achieving energy saving and emission reduction. Huang Huayao, director of the Xuzhou Institute of Water Treatment, one of the organizers, highlighted that 168 representatives from 86 synthetic ammonia enterprises attended the conference. He also addressed questions raised by company representatives regarding wastewater treatment. The meeting included a site visit to another organizer, Shandong Hengtong (Lucheng) Chemical Co., Ltd. This company adopted a combination of source pollution control and end-of-pipe treatment. The investment amounted to 15 million yuan, reducing total wastewater from 250 cubic meters per hour to 80 cubic meters per hour, and lowering drainage to 3-4 cubic meters per ton of ammonia. This led to annual savings of over 10 million yuan in sewage treatment and disposal fees, with the entire investment expected to be recovered within two years. Delegates observed the external drainage quality, which met or exceeded the discharge standards for large-scale nitrogen fertilizer companies, with chemical oxygen demand (COD) below 60 mg/L, ammonia nitrogen ≤ 15 mg/L, and total nitrogen ≤ 30 mg/L. The ammonia industry is a major water user and a significant pollutant emitter. China’s ammonia industry consumes an average of 58 tons of ammonia and 2.7 billion tons of water annually, while discharging 2.13 billion cubic meters of wastewater and emitting 0.990 million tons of pollutants yearly. Many pollutants exceed standard levels, requiring multiple treatments before reaching discharge standards. The Xuzhou Institute of Water Treatment has developed 10 advanced wastewater treatment technologies aimed at energy saving and emission reduction. These technologies emphasize source control, end-of-pipe treatment, and linkage treatment, ensuring effective pollution control. After implementing these technologies, enterprises can reduce external drainage by over 70%, cut material consumption by more than 60%, and lower end-of-pipe treatment costs by 40-60%. This helps the ammonia industry move toward zero emissions. The report highlights ten key energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies for synthetic ammonia wastewater: 1. **Gasification Wastewater Micro-Vortex Treatment Technology**: Reduces pollution in cooling systems and achieves zero emissions. It has been applied by over 100 companies, with low costs and high efficiency. 2. **Circulating Cooling Water Concentration and Emission Reduction Technology**: Increases concentration multiples from 2 to 4-6 times, cutting sewage by 70-80% and reducing dosing costs by up to 30%. 3. **Desulfurization Cycle Water One-Way Purifier Technology**: Solves long-standing issues in desulfurization and circulating water treatment with a single unit, improving water quality and reducing costs. 4. **Urea Analytical Solution Advanced Treatment and Reuse Technology**: Converts wastewater into desalinated water, saving millions in investment and improving efficiency. 5. **Methanol and Dimethyl Ether Residue Treatment Technology**: Treats high-concentration organic waste efficiently, reducing environmental impact and generating revenue. 6. **Oily Sewage Purification Technology**: Removes oil from wastewater, reducing treatment costs and preventing contamination. 7. **Off-Line Wastewater pH Standard Technology**: Saves acid and alkali recovery, reduces neutralization needs, and improves process efficiency. 8. **Ammonium Nitrate Wastewater A/B Bed Treatment Technology**: Recycles 100% of ammonium nitrate wastewater, reducing investment and improving water quality. 9. **A/SBR Short-Cut Nitrification Process**: Achieves high nitrogen removal rates, lowers costs, and ensures stable effluent quality. 10. **Wastewater Recycling Treatment Technology**: Selects appropriate reuse methods based on salt content, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness. Representatives from various companies shared their experiences. Li Nawei of Shandong Sinochem Plain Chemical Group reported that after adopting the Xuzhou Institute's technology, their ammonia drainage dropped to 3-4 cubic meters per ton, and they saved millions in costs. Yin Yin Xue of Shandong Feida Chemical Technology noted the success of the A/SBR process, which outperformed traditional methods in performance and cost. He Xinxin of Anhui Sanxing Chemical Company highlighted energy savings and reduced emissions through advanced technologies. Cao Xuebin of Shandong Hengtong Chemical Co., Ltd. praised the A/SBR process for its efficiency and cost savings. Chang Zhengzheng of Henan Xinyang Asia New Energy emphasized the importance of selecting proven technologies to meet environmental standards. In conclusion, the meeting showcased how innovative technologies can transform wastewater management, reduce environmental impact, and support sustainable industrial growth. The collaboration between research institutes and enterprises has proven essential in achieving these goals.
