China National Steel Corporation Xingtai Machinery Roll Co., Ltd. has recently successfully tested a large-scale horizontal centrifuge, marking a significant breakthrough in the production of super-large work rolls for heavy plate mills. This equipment is primarily designed for manufacturing horizontal centrifuges with diameters exceeding 1 meter and roll thicknesses over 5 meters. The successful trial run demonstrates that Xingtai has solid technical support and equipment capabilities to produce high-quality work rolls for heavy plate rolling mills. Thick slabs over 5 meters are mainly used in critical industries such as shipbuilding, oil and gas transportation, and military applications. The ability to produce such thick plates reflects a country's overall steelmaking strength. Currently, Chinese steel mills relying on 5-meter-thick plate mills often depend on imported work rolls for their key components. However, the recent hot test of the first domestically developed 5-meter-wide and thick plate rolling mill work roll by Sinosteel Xingkai for Sha Steel has filled a major domestic gap. Despite this progress, mass production remains challenging due to some mismatches between the original equipment and the product requirements. In China, most operational or under-construction horizontal centrifuges have a maximum rotating weight of around 30 tons, with some reaching over 50 tons. However, the extra-large horizontal centrifuge developed by China Steel Xingtai boasts a maximum rotating weight of 100 tons, making it one of the most advanced in the country. It also features unique technologies like oil and gas lubrication systems, ensuring superior performance and functionality. As a result, it stands out as the largest, most efficient, and most complete horizontal roll casting machine in the nation. The successful hot test of this large-scale centrifuge has enabled China Steel Xingtai to begin producing extremely large and heavy plate work rolls at scale. This advancement will lead to higher-quality products with improved technical content, better stability, and enhanced durability. These improvements are crucial in addressing the current supply-demand imbalance in the domestic heavy plate market and promoting the localization of large-scale work rolls, reducing reliance on foreign imports.
