Automobile giants gathered in Xi'an to discuss their own plans for independent development
On the morning of November 15, the 9th meeting of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers, hosted by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and China FAW Group, and organized by Shaanxi Automobile Group Corporation, took place in Xi’an. The event focused on the theme: “Exploring how China’s auto industry can achieve development through independent growth and innovation in the new era.†Attendees included Pang Jiaxuan, Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, Qiu Shijie, Director of the Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and Huang Shengshen, Deputy Mayor of Xi’an City, who all delivered speeches. Zhang Yupu, Chairman of the Group Corporation, presented a keynote address sharing insights on corporate development experiences.
In his speech, Chairman Zhang emphasized that Shaanxi Automobile is a company built entirely by China, with a long history of combining domestic independent development with foreign technology to create a comprehensive lineup of self-developed off-road vehicles. While producing military off-road vehicles, the company also introduced Steyr Automotive Technology to enhance the status of domestic heavy-duty trucks. He stressed that Shaanxi Auto’s journey has shown that success in the heavy truck sector comes from a combination of self-driven R&D, brand building, and the strategic absorption of advanced foreign technologies—rather than simply copying them. Looking ahead, the company will continue to prioritize its own brands and self-development while fostering cooperation to produce high-quality commercial vehicles tailored to China’s needs.
Pang Jiaxuan, Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted the rapid development of the Shaanxi automobile industry since the new century, especially under the leadership of Zhang Yupu. He praised the group for its strong competitive spirit and transformation, which led to a tenfold increase in sales revenue over five years. He also mentioned that Shaanxi Auto is currently working on a 20-year plan, accelerating the construction of key production bases such as Caijiapo, Baoji Zhongka, and Xi’an Heavy Truck. With the momentum from this conference, he expressed confidence in achieving future goals and pledged continued support from Shaanxi Province to help the company grow faster and become a leading force in the region's industrial strategy.
Huang Shengshen, Deputy Mayor of Xi’an City, stated that Shaanxi Auto, as a major enterprise developed during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan," has received strong support from both provincial and municipal governments, as well as the High-tech Industrial Development Zone. He announced that the city government and the Economic and Technological Development Zone would provide the best services and policies to support the further growth of Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck. He also called on industry colleagues to support the development of the auto sector and contribute to the overall growth of China’s automobile industry.
Experts including He Guangyuan, former Minister of China Machinery Industry, Wang Fuchang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industrial Policy at the National Development and Reform Commission, Chen Jianguo, Director of the Department of Industry, and Chen Lin, along with Jiang Lei and Hu Xinmin, discussed how China can build a strong, autonomous, and open automobile industry. They unanimously agreed that the Chinese auto industry is at a critical turning point, transitioning from capacity expansion to innovation-driven growth. With increasing global competition, the industry must continue developing healthily by embracing independent innovation.
The conference was lively, with more than 60 representatives from over 40 major auto companies and related departments across China, as well as members of the China Automobile Association and invited guests, offering valuable suggestions on enhancing the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers and promoting the sustainable development of the industry.
After the two-day event, delegates visited the newly developed base in the northern suburbs of Shaanxi Auto, expressing great admiration for the modern heavy truck production site.
Key leaders from our group companies who participated in the conference included General Manager Fang Hongwei, Party Secretary Chen Juyuan, Chairman Assistant Yi Yingshen, and Director of the Office Liu Jinping.
