In the first half of the year, Xiangfan’s export growth was strong
Xiangfan, Hubei — August 7 (Reporters: Hou Wanyong and Zhang Fengling) Xiangfan City has seen a strong performance in foreign trade exports during the first half of this year. According to recent data, the city's total exports reached $135 million from January to June, marking a 50% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth reflects the city’s expanding global trade network and improved export capabilities.
One of the key players driving this success is Dongfeng Cummins, a major exporter in Xiangfan. Since the start of the year, the company has actively engaged in the international procurement system of Cummins parts, successfully fulfilling export orders for critical engine components such as 4B and 6B cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and connecting rods. From January to June, the company's export volume more than doubled compared to the same period last year, showcasing its growing role in the global supply chain.
The shift toward higher-value products has also been evident in Xiangfan’s export structure. Mechanical and electrical products now make up a larger share of the city's exports. In the first half of the year, electromechanical goods generated $50.21 million in foreign exchange earnings, a significant rise of 69.3% year-on-year. This trend highlights the city's increasing focus on advanced manufacturing and technology-driven exports.
In addition to the growth in mechanical and electrical products, various trading entities in Xiangfan have shown consistent expansion. Domestic production enterprises contributed $67.47 million in export value, while foreign-funded enterprises and foreign trade companies saw even more impressive growth, with exports rising by 71.7% and 69.7% respectively compared to the previous year.
A notable change in the export market has been the shift in trade partners. India has emerged as Xiangfan’s largest trading partner, with mechanical and electrical products and bedding being the main export categories. This development signals a diversification of Xiangfan’s export destinations and a stronger presence in emerging markets. Overall, the first half of the year has marked a positive turning point for Xiangfan’s foreign trade, with sustained growth across multiple sectors and regions.
