Beijing Auto Show: Auto giants battle China's largest auto show
The Beijing International Auto Show is expected to generate over 100 million yuan in booth revenue, with ticket sales adding up to approximately 2 billion yuan. According to the general manager of the China International Exhibition Center, a total of 150 million yuan has been invested in the event. If it weren’t for the SARS outbreak that affected last year’s Shanghai International Auto Show, the event would likely be profitable. The 2004 Beijing International Auto Exhibition will run from June 9th to June 16th, marking the largest and most high-grade auto show to date.
More than 1,400 domestic and international automotive companies from 20 countries and regions are expected to participate, with an exhibition area of nearly 110,000 square meters. The event is anticipated to attract over 400,000 visitors. Major international automakers such as Ford, Nissan, Audi, Hyundai, BMW, Honda, and Volkswagen, along with China's three major automotive groups, will showcase their latest products and innovations.
This biennial event, organized by the China National Offshore Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation Corporation and the China International Exhibition Center Group Corporation, has been successfully held seven times so far. The seventh edition in 2002 set new records in terms of exhibitors, variety of vehicles, and visitor numbers.
In November of last year, organizers announced another "Beijing International Auto Show" was planned for May 2004, sparking widespread discussion due to the short time between two major events. After negotiations, Wan Jifei, president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, confirmed that only one Beijing Auto Show would take place in 2004, scheduled from June 9th to June 16th at the China International Exhibition Center, with a branch venue at the Agricultural Exhibition Hall.
The total exhibition area is nearly 120,000 square meters (80,000 at the International Exhibition Center and 40,000 at the Agricultural Exhibition Hall). Domestic exhibitors pay 1,200 yuan per square meter, while foreign exhibitors pay 260 U.S. dollars. The event also introduced electronic magnetic card tickets, enhancing security and efficiency in ticket management.
On the day before the opening (June 9th), only journalists were invited for the News Day. Professional visits took place on June 10th and 11th, costing 100 yuan per person, while public visits ran from June 12th to 16th at 50 yuan each. Tickets allowed access to both the International Exhibition Center and the Agricultural Exhibition Hall.
Major brands like Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo will occupy large spaces, while others like Geely and Chery expressed dissatisfaction with their booth sizes. Despite this, the event continues to draw global attention, showcasing the latest trends and innovations in the automotive industry.
