Electroplating wastewater recycling technology won the national promotion
Xiamen Visab Membrane Technology Co., Ltd. has developed an advanced electroplating wastewater recycling technology that was recognized as a national key environmental protection practical technology in 2008. This innovative system is widely applied in areas such as medical ultrapure water, industrial high-purity water production, domestic wastewater treatment, and industrial wastewater purification. The process begins with comprehensive pretreatment of the integrated wastewater, which is then stored in a centralized tank for further processing. A coagulant is added to settle impurities, and the resulting clear water is sent to a membrane recovery system. Approximately 85% of the water is recovered and reused in production, while the remaining 15% concentrated waste undergoes specialized chemical treatment. This technology not only recovers valuable heavy metals like chromium from the plating tanks but also returns treated water to the rinsing tanks, offering both economic benefits and environmental sustainability.
According to partial data, there are around 15,000 electroplating plants in China, collectively discharging about 400 million tons of wastewater containing heavy metals annually. Traditional chemical methods often come with high costs, resource wastage, and secondary pollution. In contrast, membrane recovery technology, as an emerging solution, integrates chemical processes, membrane separation, vacuum evaporation, and biological treatment methods. This combination has significantly improved metal ion recovery rates—from 95% to 99%—and increased water recovery rates from 80% to 85%. Additionally, the concentration of metal ions has risen from 100 times to 300 times, making the process more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Currently, Xiamen Visab Membrane Technology has installed four electroplating wastewater membrane recycling systems for Luda Xiamen Industry Co., Ltd. These systems not only recover nickel ions but also reuse clean water that meets or exceeds tap water quality standards. As a result, Luda Company saves 20,000 tons of water annually, recovers 5 tons of nickel, and reduces chemical treatment costs by 200,000 yuan. To date, the company has deployed nearly 500 water treatment systems across industries such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and electroplating, all of which are functioning efficiently and receiving positive feedback from clients.
