Fatal crash in Milwaukee, WI – 10-24-19
Excerpts from Fox6now.com:
Three young lives were tragically altered last week when a car struck them while they were crossing the street near 22nd Street and Center Street on Thursday evening, October 24. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m., and one child succumbed to their injuries. The driver involved in the hit-and-run did not stop.
According to police reports, the accident happened when the driver ignored a red light. The crash involved three children—two girls, aged 6 and 4, and a 10-year-old boy—and two separate vehicles. Authorities are still investigating whether the children were struck by both cars, but it's confirmed that both drivers fled the scene immediately after the collision. The 6-year-old girl passed away due to her injuries, leaving her family devastated. Her 4-year-old sister and 10-year-old cousin sustained serious injuries and remain in critical condition.
The vehicle responsible for the tragedy has been described as a 2007-2009 Saturn Aura, gray in color, with noticeable front-end damage and tinted windows. As of now, law enforcement continues their search for the individuals involved.

Excerpts from an earlier article at jsonline.com:
In response to recent incidents involving dangerous driving, the Milwaukee Police Department is launching a new initiative called "Keep MKE’s Streets Safe." Starting today, the department plans to share the names, booking photos, and arrest details of individuals convicted of felonies related to reckless driving or fleeing officers on their social media platforms. This initiative aims to raise awareness and deter repeat offenders.
Many of those arrested for these offenses have criminal histories, with some having been apprehended multiple times for similar charges. For instance, 32 individuals arrested this year had already been detained at least twice for fleeing police.
This move comes in the wake of a recent crash that left three people injured in the 3100 block of North 35th Street following a police pursuit. Officers were chasing a stolen vehicle linked to an armed robbery/home invasion in the 2700 block of West State Street when the driver refused to stop. Although officers eventually discontinued the chase, the suspect continued speeding recklessly until colliding with another vehicle.
Currently, police protocols permit pursuits for vehicles suspected of involvement in violent crimes. However, the department allows such chases only under specific conditions, particularly when the vehicle is tied to drug trafficking or reckless driving.
Tragic outcomes have occurred during several high-speed chases in recent years. On August 1, 19-year-old Lequon McCoy lost his life when the driver of a pursued vehicle, traveling up to 80 mph, ran a red light and collided with his Jeep Renegade at North 12th and West Locust streets. Similarly, on April 18, 18-year-old Larenzo Jones lost his life in a pursuit stemming from a shooting that wounded two teenage girls and a 14-year-old boy. Jones was a passenger in the suspect vehicle.
Furthermore, on June 7, 2018, Officer Charles Irvine Jr., 23, died in a rollover crash during a pursuit of a reckless driver. His partner, Officer Matthew Schulze, also suffered injuries in the incident.
As our community grapples with these devastating events, it's crucial we prioritize safety and hold accountable those who endanger others on our roads.
*Thanks, Asher.*
