Full Still Alarm in Stickney, 7-4-16
July 4, 2016 – It’s been a busy day for the Stickney, Illinois Fire Department. I just got word that they responded to a structure fire earlier today. Here’s what happened, as reported by Drew Gresik:
Around 3:10 PM, the department received a call about a house fire at 4144 Elmwood Avenue. Given that the address is just two blocks away from the fire station, Engine 1201 and Truck 1204 were already rolling with visible smoke by the time they left the station. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 1.5-story building fully engulfed in smoke. It was an ordinary residential structure, and the firefighters quickly went into action.
Engine 1201 took the lead in initiating an aggressive interior attack. They discovered the fire was primarily located in the attic. Two lines were deployed, and one was successfully used to extinguish the flames. The roof was also opened to allow ventilation, which is crucial in these situations. The entire operation took approximately one and a half hours before the fire department could return to quarters.
The units involved in this incident included Stickney Engines 1201 and 1203, Stickney Truck 1204, Forest View Engine 813, Central Stickney T906, and several chiefs from the Stickney Fire Department. It’s always great to see such a coordinated effort between neighboring departments.
