New US Tanker for Countryside

The Countryside Fire Protection District recently welcomed a brand-new tanker truck, designated Tanker 411, which is set to join their fleet soon. Although it hasn't yet entered official service, this impressive vehicle is designed to replace a 1988 Pierce Dash model that has served them well for decades. This older unit will be relocated to Libertyville, where it will either be used by Libertyville or serve as a backup for Countryside. The new tanker boasts an innovative design, featuring an International HC 4400 two-door cab mounted on a short chassis with a single rear axle. Its pump capacity is rated at 1,000 gallons per minute (GPM), while the water tank can hold up to 2,000 gallons. Additionally, it includes a 30-gallon foam tank capable of carrying Class-A firefighting foam. For operational efficiency, the hose bed is equipped with a 1,000-foot capacity, housing approximately 700 feet of 5-inch hose and around 600 feet of 2-1/2-inch hose. A 200-foot 1-3/4-inch crosslay and another 200-300 feet of 3-inch hose further enhance its firefighting capabilities. One standout feature of Tanker 411 is its rear platform, specifically designed for the safe and efficient loading of hose. The non-slip surface ensures safety during operations, and it's constructed with drainage holes to allow excess water to flow through. Beneath the platform, a backup camera provides drivers with enhanced visibility. Another notable aspect is the remote-controlled chute system located on both sides and the rear of the vehicle. These chutes can extend outward from the body, making hose deployment quicker and more efficient. The rear also features a ladder leading up to the hose-loading platform, an arrow stick for directional guidance, a backup camera, and NFPA-compliant chevron striping for improved visibility. Inside, Tanker 411 is equipped with a 30-gallon foam tank and a robust 1,000-GPM pump, ensuring it can handle even the most demanding situations. The exterior of the tanker is crafted from stainless steel, adding durability and longevity to its design. Looking ahead, Countryside FPD is eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new GMC/Horton ambulance and an IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine in August. These additions promise to further bolster the district's emergency response capabilities, providing residents with state-of-the-art equipment and peace of mind. In summary, Tanker 411 represents a significant upgrade for Countryside FPD, combining advanced technology with practical design elements to ensure effective firefighting operations. Its integration into the fleet marks an exciting milestone for the district, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and community protection.
