New US Tanker for Countryside
The Countryside Fire Protection District has recently acquired a brand-new tanker unit, which is expected to enhance their firefighting capabilities. Although still not officially in service, this new addition, Tanker 411, is set to replace a much older 1988 Pierce Dash model that has seen better days. This aging vehicle will eventually find its home in Libertyville, where it will serve as either a backup resource for Countryside or as a fully operational unit for Libertyville.
The new Tanker 411 features an innovative design with an IHC 4400 2-door cab mounted on a shorter chassis equipped with a single rear axle. Its powerful 1,000-GPM pump works in tandem with a 2,000-gallon water tank, ensuring efficient and reliable firefighting operations. Additionally, it includes a 30-gallon foam tank capable of handling Class-A foam, making it versatile for various emergency scenarios. The hose bed at the rear can accommodate up to 1,000 feet of hose, including 700 feet of 5-inch hose and approximately 600 feet of 2-1/2-inch hose. A 200-foot 1-3/4-inch crosslay and another 200-300 feet of 3-inch hose are also part of the setup.
For safety and efficiency, the rear platform allows firefighters to load hose safely while featuring a non-skid surface designed to let water drain effectively. Beneath the platform lies a backup camera, adding an extra layer of security during operations. The tanker also comes equipped with remote-controlled chutes on both sides and the rear, allowing for easy extension of the hose chutes when needed. A ladder at the rear provides access to the hose-loading platform, complemented by an arrow stick and NFPA chevron striping for visibility and safety.
Tanker 411’s 30-gallon foam tank and 1,000-GPM pump make it a formidable asset in combating fires. The integration of modern technology and practical design elements ensures that this tanker meets contemporary firefighting standards.
Looking ahead, Countryside anticipates the arrival of a new GMC/Horton ambulance and an IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine in August. These additions promise to further bolster the district's emergency response fleet, ensuring they remain prepared for any situation that may arise.
In conclusion, the introduction of Tanker 411 marks a significant step forward for the Countryside Fire Protection District. With its advanced features and robust design, this tanker is poised to play a critical role in maintaining public safety within the community. As the district continues to upgrade its resources, residents can look forward to enhanced protection and quicker response times in emergencies.
