Pink Heals Tour with Buffalo Grove Fire Department
The Pink Heals Tour 2010 has been making its way through Illinois, stopping in various towns to spread awareness about the fight against cancer. Starting in Rockford, then heading to the IAFC trade show in Chicago, followed by visits to Matteson and Naperville, the tour recently stopped in Buffalo Grove. Last night, the tour brought its three pink fire engines to Buffalo Grove, where they were joined by a Mount Prospect police car adorned with pink graphics and the Buffalo Grove IAFF Honor Guard. These vehicles—two EONE Hush engines and a Spartan FMC Sentinel—had previously served in Bangor, ME; Tyler, TX; and Henry, VA.
As described on their Facebook page, the Pink Heals Tour defines itself as "the ‘Cares Enough to Wear Pink’: Guardians of the Ribbon." This organization travels across the U.S. in pink fire trucks to support women battling cancer while encouraging men to get involved. Founded in Phoenix, Arizona, by firefighter Dave Graybill, the tour aims to raise awareness globally. Comprised of firefighters, police officers, and community leaders, their mission is to inspire men to support the women in their communities and to instill hope in those fighting cancer. They’ve invited everyone to wear something pink on October 25th, 26th, and 27th to show solidarity.
Firefighter Steve Rusin, representing the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, has been selling pink and blue t-shirts to help raise funds for the Pink Heals Tour. Each truck is covered with messages from individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer. The tour continues to gather support and inspire hope wherever it goes.
