The public institution responsible for the conservation and restoration of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris has recently announced an official partnership with Autodesk. This collaboration will involve providing advanced design and construction solutions, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), which supports intelligent data and 3D geometric modeling processes, along with expert technical assistance. By utilizing BIM, a detailed digital record of the historical structure is being created, enhancing its resilience against future disasters and facilitating effective restoration efforts.

Before the tragic fire at Notre-Dame, data captured through reality capture technologies enabled Autodesk to construct a comprehensive 3D BIM model of the cathedral as it was prior to the incident. Following the fire, additional reality capture scans were employed to generate post-disaster 3D models for comparative analysis.
