The development of the Shanghai International Shipping Center is gaining increasing attention, and professionals in the field are becoming highly sought after. At the recent Master’s Graduation Ceremony for the "International Transportation and Logistics" program, jointly organized by the United Nations-affiliated World Maritime University and Shanghai Maritime University, it was revealed that 42 students had already been offered jobs before they even graduated. These students were recruited by major shipping companies such as Maersk, COSCO, Zhonghai, Baosteel, and even US General Motors, showing the strong demand for qualified graduates in this sector.
According to Ma Shuo, Vice President of the World Maritime University, Shanghai's ongoing efforts to build an international shipping center have created a significant need for skilled professionals. As a result, graduates from the university's "International Transportation and Logistics" master’s program are highly valued by employers. With a degree that matches the quality of the Swedish headquarters and a more affordable cost, the Shanghai-based program has attracted growing interest from international students. Compared to the main campus in Sweden, where tuition is around $12,000 per year, the Shanghai program offers the same academic standards at a much lower price.
Robertstein, the president of the World Maritime University, noted that students from Shanghai make up a quarter of the total number of master’s graduates worldwide. In addition to Shanghai Maritime University, institutions in India, Egypt, and Chile have also applied to partner with the university on the program. However, Shanghai was chosen due to its rising global influence in the shipping industry and its strategic role in developing an international shipping hub.
With the growing importance of China in global trade and logistics, the demand for skilled professionals in this field is expected to continue rising. This has led to increased enrollment in related programs, with more students choosing to study in Shanghai to take advantage of both the high-quality education and the promising career opportunities.
