The Fifth of Sweet Potato Fertilizer Series: Integrated Techniques for High-yield, Non-pollution, Optimized Fertilization of Sweet Potato

The Fifth in the Sweet Potato Fertilizer Series: Integrated Techniques for High-Yield, Pollution-Free, and Optimized Fertilization of Sweet Potatoes

Based on years of experimental research and practical farming experience, we have developed a high-yield, pollution-free, and optimized fertilization model that can help achieve fresh sweet potato yields of 3,000 to 4,000 kilograms per mu. This approach combines organic, inorganic, and biological technologies to ensure both productivity and environmental sustainability.

1. Combining Organic, Inorganic, and Biotechnology for Base Fertilization

Although sweet potatoes are known for their resilience, they have a long growth cycle and require significant nutrients from the soil. Therefore, applying base fertilizer is essential to unlock their full yield potential. Soil testing should be conducted first to determine nutrient levels. For soils with fertility above average—containing more than 1% organic matter, over 0.05% available nitrogen, more than 20 ppm available phosphorus, and over 100 ppm available potassium—it is recommended to apply 3,000–4,000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure per mu, along with 2–3 kg of bio-fertilizer containing over 200 million bacteria per gram, and 30 kg of high-quality NPK compound fertilizer with over 15% nutrient content.

If farmyard manure is not available, you can use Granville brand humic acid to activate phosphorus and potassium fertilizers instead of 50–60 kg per mu. The base fertilizer should be applied once during land preparation, and the amount of compound fertilizer should be adjusted based on soil test results. Since sweet potato roots mainly develop in the 25–30 cm soil layer, it's important to apply the fertilizer at this depth for better root absorption. To improve soil structure, consider using the furrow planting method to deepen the plow layer.

2. Skillful Application of Topdressing for Nutrient Supplementation

Topdressing should be applied during the early stage of tuber expansion, following the principle of "supplementing what is lacking." Amino Acid Chelated NPK compound fertilizer (7.5–10 kg per mu) or Dihydrogen Phosphate Potassium (2–3 kg per mu) can be used. The application methods include acupuncture or dissolving in water and watering the roots. Each dose should be around 0.25–0.5 kg. This ensures efficient nutrient uptake and promotes healthy plant growth.

3. Scientific Use of Foliar Fertilizers for Balanced Nutrition

Foliar fertilization is an effective way to balance nutrition, stimulate plant vitality, enhance stress resistance, and promote a better balance between vegetative and reproductive growth. During the entire growth period, it is recommended to spray Lei Li2000 functional compound liquid fertilizer 3–4 times, using 30 bags of 30 kg of water per mu. This can increase yield by 20%–30%. Alternatively, Laoxiang brand high-efficiency biological liquid fertilizer can be sprayed three times throughout the growing season. Mix 25 grams of sweet potato-specific liquid fertilizer in 15 kg of water and spray the stems and leaves, which can also boost production by approximately 30%.
