Shanghai shipping status is subject to world attention to maritime senior talents worldwide booking

The Shanghai International Shipping Center is rapidly advancing, drawing increasing attention and making related professionals highly sought after. At the recent Master's Graduation Ceremony for the "International Transportation and Logistics" program, jointly organized by the United Nations-affiliated World Maritime University and Shanghai Maritime University, 42 students were honored with recognition from major shipping companies such as Maersk, COSCO, Zhonghai, Baosteel, and even US General Motors. These companies have already "booked" the graduates before they even finish their studies, highlighting the strong demand for skilled professionals in this field. According to Ma Shuo, Vice President of the World Maritime University, Shanghai’s push to become a global shipping hub has created a significant shortage of senior professionals in the industry. As a result, graduates of the "International Transportation and Logistics" master's program are highly valued by employers. With a degree that matches the quality of the university’s Swedish campus but at a much lower cost, the program has attracted growing interest from international students. The annual tuition is only around $12,000, which is significantly less than what students would pay at the main campus in Sweden. In addition to its affordability, the program benefits from China’s critical role in the global shipping industry. Every year, over 40 master's students are enrolled in the Shanghai class, accounting for a quarter of the total number of graduates worldwide. This reflects the growing importance of Shanghai as a center for maritime education and training. Robertstein, the president of the World Maritime University, noted that students from Shanghai make up a substantial portion of the program’s global cohort. While several universities in India, Egypt, and Chile had also applied for collaboration, the World Maritime University ultimately chose Shanghai due to its strategic position in the global shipping landscape. As Shanghai continues to develop into an international shipping center, it is becoming an essential hub for maritime education and talent development.
