Working fire in the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD, 6/27/15
I just arrived at the scene of a townhouse fire on Catbird Lane in an unincorporated area of the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District. Smoke was first reported coming from one of the townhouses, prompting a quick response from local firefighters. When the first units pulled up, they found smoke billowing from the structure and quickly escalated the alarm to a Code 4, indicating an active fire situation.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods team wasted no time getting to work. Their initial forces included Engine 51 and 52, Truck 53, Battalion 51, and Ambulance 52. They managed to swiftly extinguish the flames, which were located above one of the second-floor bedrooms. It was a well-coordinated effort, with mutual aid arriving from neighboring departments like Wheeling (T24), Buffalo Grove (BN 4 and E26), Prospect Heights (S9), along with support from a Lake Zurich ambulance and chiefs from Long Grove and Countryside.
I’ve been snapping some photos of the action as it unfolded. You can see Pierce fire engines parked strategically around the scene, with Truck 53 positioned skillfully through dense tree lines. Firefighters were hard at work cutting ventilation holes in the roof, a crucial step in managing fires in attic spaces. The images really capture the intensity and teamwork involved in tackling such emergencies.
One of the most striking shots shows Engine 52 parked nearby, its crew ready to respond. There’s also a powerful image of a firefighter after the firefight, clearly exhausted but proud of the job done. Another photo highlights the impressive coordination between multiple fire trucks at the scene, each playing its part in containing the blaze.
It’s not just about the equipment and strategy; it’s the dedication of these firefighters that stands out. Their ability to work together under pressure is evident in every frame. I’ve captured moments where you can see the intense focus on their faces as they battle the flames. It’s humbling to witness firsthand how these professionals put themselves in harm's way to protect others.
