Barrington MABAS 2nd Alarm 7-19-11

Last night, around 9 PM, the Barrington Fire Department received multiple calls about a structure fire at #7 Crestview Lane in Lake Barrington. When the first units arrived, they discovered heavy flames engulfing a vacant house that was currently under renovation. It was later confirmed that the fire originated in this unoccupied property. Lake Zurich Engine 2 (3214), stationed approximately two miles away, quickly arrived just after the initial Barrington units from Station 3. They immediately set up a relay pumping operation, which was later supported by a tanker shuttle from the end of Crestview Lane at Old Barrington Road. This strategic setup ensured a continuous supply of water to fight the rapidly spreading fire. Multiple firefighting teams were deployed, with seven tankers responding to the scene. Despite the challenging conditions—low 80s temperatures with high humidity—the fire was successfully extinguished within an hour. Mutual aid support was provided by departments from Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Mundelein, Cary, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Long Grove, Bartlett, Wauconda, Algonquin-Lake In The Hills, and Deerfield, each contributing critical resources and manpower. Photographer Larry Shapiro arrived after the fire had been brought under control and shared some compelling images from both the active firefighting efforts and the subsequent staging areas. His photos captured moments like Mundelein Engine 431 parked on Old Barrington Road, where crew members were actively working inside the burning building, and Hoffman Estates Engine 23 firefighters positioned in staging. Additionally, Carpentersville Engine 942, a 2007 Pierce Dash, stood ready several blocks away, while Cary firefighters mobilized their Squad 255. Even West Dundee firefighters joined the response with their Pierce Saber apparatus. The collaborative effort among these departments highlights the importance of regional cooperation during emergencies. Despite the intense heat and humidity, all responders worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, ensuring minimal damage and safeguarding nearby properties. For those interested in further details, The Daily Herald has published a brief article covering the incident. As always, it’s inspiring to see how communities come together when faced with challenges like this.
