The new industry standard (HG/T3981-2007) for bipolar ion membrane electrolyzers, developed by Bluestar (Beijing) Chemical Machinery Co., Ltd., will officially come into effect on April 1st. This standard is expected to significantly contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction in the chlor-alkali industry, playing a vital role in setting industry norms. Previously, Zhejiang Jiande Jianye Organic Chemicals Co., Ltd. contributed six national standards for organic amines, while Zhejiang Xin'an Chemical Group Co., Ltd. successfully drafted a national working standard for dimethyl dichlorosilane, which was later adopted as an official chemical standard after review by the technical committee's organic branch.
Following the Central Economic Work Conference and the National Quality Inspection Work Conference last year, the central leadership emphasized the importance of standardization work, making it more critical than ever. As a result, enterprises are increasingly motivated to participate in the development of industry, national, and even international standards. More and more chemical companies now recognize that involvement in standard-setting not only helps them gain a technological edge but also enhances their brand visibility and industry influence.
The chlor-alkali industry is one of the key sectors targeted by national energy-saving and emission-reduction initiatives, with mandatory national standards set for the energy consumption of 22 high-energy-consuming products. The bipolar ion membrane electrolysis method outlined in Bluestar’s standard offers significant energy savings compared to the traditional diaphragm method, reducing energy consumption by approximately 1,000 kWh per ton of caustic soda. Additionally, this process improves product purity and reduces environmental pollution. By March, North Chemicals had promoted the installation of 7.25 million tons of domestic ion-exchange membrane caustic soda equipment, which saves around 7.25 billion kWh annually.
Jiande Jianye Chemical Co., Ltd. has taken the lead in drafting six national standards for organic amines, including industrial ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, isopropylamine, diisopropylamine, and methods for determining low-carbon aliphatic amine content. These efforts have demonstrated the company’s strong technical capabilities. Xin’an Chemicals, a major player in China’s organosilicon industry, also excels in organic synthesis technology, further strengthening its market position.
Wei Jing, Secretary-General of the National Chemical Standardization Technical Committee, emphasized that while enterprise participation in standardization is growing, it is essential to shift perspectives. He urged companies to view standard formulation from a broader, more strategic viewpoint, focusing on the long-term development of the entire industry and adopting an international outlook.
