Chicago Working Fire, 12-13-14

Hey everyone, This just came in from Drew Gresik. He reported a small fire at 4718 West Monroe Street within the 13th Battalion on December 13, 2014. Fire crews responded quickly, managing to knock it down swiftly. They found trash scattered on the first floor and three separate trash fires on the second floor of this abandoned building. Given the suspicious nature of these fires, the Office of Fire Investigation was called in right away. Engine 113 arrived and connected to a nearby hydrant, deploying two hose lines. Meanwhile, Truck 26 got to work opening up the roof. The squad and rescue vehicles were kept back until further notice. Drew mentioned that the initial response was handled efficiently, but the presence of debris complicated things a bit. It’s always a good reminder of how important it is to keep vacant buildings clear of any potential fire hazards. Take a look at the photos below; they really capture the scene well. Drew took some great shots, including images of Engine 113 in action, Tower Ladder 14, and the smoke billowing from the two-flat building.
