House fire in Orland Park, 11-7-22
The Orland Fire District was called to a fire on the 9800 block of Avenida Del Este at 10:41 PM on Monday evening. Multiple 911 calls came in about an unknown fire in the area, and it's believed the fire started in a shed next to a home.
Battalion 6 arrived first and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the shed, which was located beside a tri-level house. The fire had already spread into the second-floor attic. Firefighters quickly launched a coordinated attack using two pre-connected hose lines, one on the front and one on the back of the home. The blaze was brought under control rapidly, preventing further damage.
The homeowner met the firefighters in the driveway and confirmed that all residents had safely evacuated. According to the homeowner, someone saw the flames and kept knocking on the door until they opened it. A full still alarm was activated to bring more resources to the scene, including backup crews from Orland stations.
Firefighters from the Orland Fire District worked together on fire suppression, search and rescue, and overhaul. Orland Park police also helped by alerting neighbors in a nearby home and assisting them in evacuating to safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Orland Fire District is working with MABAS 19 investigators and its own Origin and Cause Team. Additional help came from fire departments in Palos, Tinley Park, Homer, Lemont, North Palos, as well as companies from neighboring districts.
