San Francisco – March 24, 2022 – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire The Wild, a cloud-connected extended reality (XR) platform that includes its flagship solutions, The Wild and IrisVR. This acquisition marks a significant step in the evolution of immersive collaboration tools for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. The Wild provides AEC professionals with the ability to present, collaborate, and review projects in an immersive and interactive environment from anywhere, at any time. By integrating The Wild’s technologies into its ecosystem, Autodesk aims to better support customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, especially as demand for AR and VR continues to grow. With over 700 global customers using its platforms, The Wild offers cost-effective, on-demand solutions that enhance team collaboration and support remote work. Its virtual environment enables real-time ideation, decision-making, and seamless interaction, making it a valuable asset for teams operating in a rapidly changing work landscape. “The acquisition of The Wild reflects the rapid transformation taking place in the building industry,†said Andrew Anagnost, CEO and president of Autodesk. “XR is not just a trend—it's a must-have business tool, and it plays a key role in our Forge platform vision.†The Wild’s cloud-based platform allows teams to explore, interact, and modify digital models directly in the cloud, leading to faster decisions and improved outcomes at a fraction of the cost of traditional in-person methods. Gabe Paez, founder and CEO of The Wild, added, “Our shared mission is to create a more productive and collaborative AEC industry. With The Wild, teams can resolve issues in minutes rather than days, all from their desks.†Black & Veatch, a global leader in engineering and construction, has been leveraging The Wild’s IrisVR platform alongside Autodesk solutions like Autodesk Construction Cloud and Revit. According to Brian Melton, Technology Innovation Lead at Black & Veatch, these tools help teams collaborate effectively regardless of location, improving safety, coordination, and overall project outcomes. “The immersive experience provided by IrisVR is a game-changer,†said Melton. “It allows us to meet virtually within the design environment, discuss plans, conduct reviews, and coordinate activities—all while accelerating execution and enhancing safety.†Nic Fonta, General Manager of XR at Autodesk, explained why this is the right time for the acquisition: “Advancements in accessibility, affordability, and the future of digital twins and the metaverse have created the perfect environment for advancing XR technology in the AEC industry.†The Wild and IrisVR integrate with various AEC technologies such as Autodesk BIM 360, Revit, Navisworks, Rhinoceros, and Trimble SketchUp.
