Public Company Information:

NASDAQ: ADSK

Tokyo, Japan, September 8, 2014 – Nihon Sekkei, Inc. and Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) have announced a strategic partnership to develop an advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) process specifically tailored for the Japanese market. This collaboration aims to create innovative BIM workflows that align with global design standards while addressing local needs, ultimately supporting the development of smarter, more sustainable buildings and infrastructure.

For nearly 50 years, Nihon Sekkei has been at the forefront of large-scale architectural projects, including universities, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, and financial centers. Notable projects include the Toyota Motors’ Nisshin Education and Training Center, IBM Japan’s Makuhari Office, Tianjin International Financial Center, Shanghai International Trade Center, and Kanazawa Medical University Hospital. The company is well known for its expertise in design and environmental performance. Autodesk, a global leader in BIM technology, will work closely with Nihon Sekkei to maximize the benefits of BIM across the entire building lifecycle, delivering greater value to owners, users, and society.

Key elements of the partnership include:

  • Nihon Sekkei will leverage Autodesk Revit's integrated model data for architectural, structural, and MEP design, enabling designers and owners to quantify and reduce environmental impacts over a building's lifetime. This effort supports the creation of a more sustainable future.
  • The two companies will collaborate on developing new design workflows using Autodesk Revit and cloud-based platforms like A360, enhancing efficiency and innovation in the design process.
  • Improving data interoperability between Autodesk platforms and third-party applications such as facility management and simulation tools, which will expand Nihon Sekkei’s technical consulting and design capabilities. This will lead to better planning and decision-making throughout the building lifecycle.
  • Both companies will engage with global industry leaders to promote BIM as the international standard, sharing insights and experiences to drive widespread adoption and improvement.

These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the value of integrated BIM solutions. The companies believe that this approach can bring about transformative changes in design methods and workflows. In addition, they will work together to standardize architectural guidelines and levels of development (LOD), and collaborate with construction firms, educational institutions, and government agencies to deliver practical benefits from next-generation BIM technologies.
